Jones Mortuary has been proudly serving the greater Mitchell area for over one century. The Jones Mortuary, in their present day building in Mitchell, has been a funeral home since 1907, beginning as Rosebrough and Company Furniture, Farm Implements and Undertaking, owned by Ben A. Rosebrough. J. Howard Fisher (Rosebrough’s nephew) acquired the business in 1923, changing the name to Fisher Mortuary. Upon Mr. Fisher’s retirement in 1955, the mortuary was known as the Fisher-Scholz Mortuary, later becoming the Scholz Mortuary. In 1961, J. Virgil Jones from Ogallala, Nebraska purchased the business, renaming it Jones Mortuary. In 1995, the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff purchased the business, keeping the name of Jones Mortuary, as we are known today.
Jones Mortuary personnel have been and are keeping records for the area cemeteries of Mitchell City, Mitchell Valley, Forest Lawn near Morrill, and the Caldwell Cemetery near Lyman since the 1960’s.
Patrick T. Parks, Jeffrey A. Jolliffe, Scott L. Haun and Cody Bridgman, all Nebraska Licensed Funeral Directors, in addition to John Stander and Marlene Huffman, bring to the families we serve many years of professional and compassionate care in all aspects of funeral service.
A proud past, dedication to the present and a promising future providing service to our friends and neighbors in Mitchell, Morrill, Lyman, Henry, and Banner and Sioux Counties. This is the mission of Jones Mortuary.
